Twas a busy day in Bethlehem
My rooms were filled to the max
And chaos lie all around
For many had come to be taxed
The Inns were filled with people
Business today would be good
So turned I many away
Like any full Inn Keeper would
And with ne'er a second thought
I stuck to the task at hand
Then who should appear at my door
A woman pregnant on a donkey with a man
I quickly did turn them away
But looking into her eyes
I listened as the man pleaded
And ached at his sad cries
There is no room in my Inn for you
But a stable I have full of hay
It is not much for you tonight
But at least it is somewhere to lay
I showed them to my stable
Wearied they thanked me so
And walking away I wondered
What was it they did know
Had I known the King of Kings
Would be born in my manger stall
I'd have given my bed, my room to them
I'd have given Him my all
And many have turned Him away
So caught in their chaos and doom
They don't recognize the Savior
For in their hearts there's no room
So let up open our doors
Our hearts, hands, and eyes
For the magic of Christmas may lie
In a simple or humble disguise
May we each have room in our lives
To let the Master in
And unlike the hasty Inn Keeper
May we recognize it's Him
(a poem i wrote years ago)
