today in the middle of downtown I stopped
squinting at the streaming sun through ominous buildings
the heat that gently tickled my skin made me smile
i heard someone say this might be the last of the sun for a while
and laughed a little becuase I had heard that a few weeks ago
and was grateful it wasn't so
I marvled at the contrast of the buiness-suit-money-makers
and the nonprofit-bleeding-heart-save-the-world-goers
and those who are somewhere in between
watching people standing outside on their addiction breaks
and walking amidst a crowd of pedestrians hurring somewhere
I wondered how hard it would be to disappear
soon the snow will fall and the wind will blow something fearce
coats, gloves, mittens, and scarves will dance on display
but not this november afternoon
