yes this poem is about you
it's about you because
you always read into my poems
wondering if they are about you
so yes, this one is about you

Heavenly Clarity
I don't have it and I don't get it
I sometimes think I'm broken
or wandering aimlessly with direction
second guessing my decisions
doubting my confidence
and wondering where to go
we are all broken and I know this
some, more than others, but all
I get glimpses of clarity
followed by depths of uncertainty
followed by tender mercies

Let me go
I don't need your empty promises
Or your validation
What I need for you to do
Is let me go

Change
Sometimes you least expect Her
Other times you know She's coming
Some get snatched up in Her clutches
Others She leaves behind
There are times when you'd do anything for Her
Like move across the country or
Finally quit a thankless job to follow your dreams
And you realize the power She has on you
When all you want to do is make Her slow down
Even just for a few more moments
You seem to treasure the moments you can control
And ache for the ones that you can't
Sometimes She takes your breath away
And you find faith, hope, and love in people
You never dreamed of knowing before She came along
Then She rears her ugly head and ruins your best laid plans
Sometimes She requires letting go
Leaving a gaping void in your heart
Other times She demands taking a step
Making it happen or letting it go
While She shines on others you may feel left behind
Lost in Her mirage of dancing mirrors
But fear not- She has not forgotten you
Soon you will be singing and dancing in Her parade
I tip my hat and shed a tear
I'll give my heart to Her- no fear
Embrace Her, I will, come what may
Together we will find our way
Other times you know She's coming
Some get snatched up in Her clutches
Others She leaves behind
There are times when you'd do anything for Her
Like move across the country or
Finally quit a thankless job to follow your dreams
And you realize the power She has on you
When all you want to do is make Her slow down
Even just for a few more moments
You seem to treasure the moments you can control
And ache for the ones that you can't

November Afternoon
today in the middle of downtown I stopped
squinting at the streaming sun through ominous buildings
the heat that gently tickled my skin made me smile
i heard someone say this might be the last of the sun for a while
and laughed a little becuase I had heard that a few weeks ago
and was grateful it wasn't so
I marvled at the contrast of the buiness-suit-money-makers
and the nonprofit-bleeding-heart-save-the-world-goers
and those who are somewhere in between
watching people standing outside on their addiction breaks
and walking amidst a crowd of pedestrians hurring somewhere
I wondered how hard it would be to disappear
soon the snow will fall and the wind will blow something fearce
coats, gloves, mittens, and scarves will dance on display
but not this november afternoon
squinting at the streaming sun through ominous buildings
the heat that gently tickled my skin made me smile
i heard someone say this might be the last of the sun for a while
and laughed a little becuase I had heard that a few weeks ago
and was grateful it wasn't so
